Position Information
Three intermittent-hourly, temporary positions anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2015, with possibility for reappointment.

Under the direction of the Associate Athletic Director of Operations, the Bus Driver will support and enhance the mission of the San Diego State University Athletic Department. The incumbent will be responsible for driving athletic teams to various locations in the Southern California region using the Athletic Department-owned 15-passenger shuttle buses.

Salary Range
Anticipated Hiring Salary: $19.00 per hour (CSU Classification Salary Range: $18.37 - $27.57 per hour). The competitive salary is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Responsibilities
Airport Shuttle Service
• Operate shuttle bus according to the California State Vehicle Code for athletic department travel to and from San Diego airports.
• Perform safety checks on shuttle bus prior to each trip to ensure safe operation of vehicle.
• Coordinate pickup of keys with Athletics management.
• Arrive at campus departure site with shuttle bus in final operating condition no later than 45 minutes prior to scheduled departure time.
• Confirm airport pickup location and arrival time with coach. Arrive at pickup location no later than 10 minutes prior to scheduled arrival time.
• Empty garbage and sweep out shuttle bus at conclusion of each trip.
• Return shuttle bus to proper campus parking location.
• Complete driving log with report of any safety issues or needed vehicle repairs along with return of keys to designated location.

Competition Shuttle Service
• Operate shuttle bus according to the California State Vehicle Code for athletic department travel to and from various competitions in San Diego and surrounding Southern California counties.
• Perform safety checks on shuttle bus prior to each trip to ensure safe operation of vehicle.
• Arrive at campus departure site with shuttle bus in final operating condition no later than 45 minutes prior to scheduled departure time.
• Confirm all locations during trip with coach and print directions to various locations.
• Empty garbage and sweep out shuttle bus at conclusion of each trip.
• Return shuttle bus to proper campus parking location.
• Complete driving log with report of any safety issues or needed vehicle repairs along with return of keys to designated location.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
The ideal candidate must possess:
• Knowledge of the rules of safe driving and the provisions of the State of California Vehicle Code pertaining to the safe operation of buses.
• Ability to operate assigned equipment safely.
• Ability to recognize safety hazards and follow practices and laws to insure safety.
• Ability to follow manuals and guidelines pertaining to operation of State vehicles.
• Ability to load and unload vehicles correctly and safely; follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other people.
• Ability to service and make routine repairs of equipment operated.
• Ability to perform manual labor as required by the duties of the position.

Experience and Education
Equivalent to one year of paid or regularly assigned driving experience, preferably involving bus driving or chauffeuring, or other experience driving passenger- carrying vehicles.

Specialized Requirements
• Compliance with all NCAA, conference, and San Diego State University rules, policies and procedures is of paramount importance to the university. All position responsibilities should be carried out in full compliance with all such rules and regulations.
• Maintain valid California Class B driver's license along with approved medical certificate as required by California Department of Motor Vehicles.
• Maintain a good driving record as defined according to UCAM 6562, which requires each employee to certify s/he had been issued not more than three moving violations or been responsible for more than three accidents (or any combination of more than three thereof) during the past 12 months.

Preferred Qualifications
• High school diploma.
• Equivalent to two years of paid bus driving experience, preferably involving sports teams.
• Ability to spend the night away from home during occasional road trips with athletic teams.

Employees who are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on University business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

This position may require a background check, including, but not limited to employment verification and evidence of degree(s) and/or certification(s). The selected candidate will be required to submit fingerprints to the LiveScan Print Services. If required for the position, a background check must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with SDSU.
