Classification Salary Range*

$1,228 - $1,841 per month ($14,736 - $22,092 annually)

Anticipated Hiring Range*

$1,228 - $1,753.50 per month ($14,736 - $21,042 annually)

Position Summary*

Responsible for opening and securing doors and windows of campus buildings; provides
lock-out assistance to staff and faculty; coordinates escorts; patrols by foot and bicycle; reports
hazardous conditions; assists with evacuations and crime prevention in buildings; performs duties assigned by the Watch Commander.

Minimum Qualifications*

Education/Work Experience: High School diploma or equivalent; three to six months related work experience would achieve these entry qualifications.

Knowledge: applicable procedures and regulations related to parking, traffic control, security and/or public safety; familiar with the California Penal Code; police department radio codes and equipment; applicable procedures and regulations related to campus security, public safety, and parking; alarm and radio systems; University emergency procedures.

Specialized Skills: knowledge /use of applicable automated and computerized University Police systems and databases; effective interpersonal and communication skills.

Abilities: detect and respond appropriately to potential hazardous and crime situations; independently make effective decisions and judgments in emergency situations; observe and recall details and incidents; act and resolve parking and traffic problems; write standard incident reports in a clear and concise manner; interact effectively with a wide range of individuals including the campus community , general public and law enforcement personnel; handle confidential sensitive situations; analyze operational issues and recommend procedural changes; plan and schedule unit work and provide; communicate effectively with the campus community.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum one year experience as a security officer preferred but not required; knowledge of University Library and campus operating and emergency procedures.

Pre-Employment Requirements

Passing of pre-employment medical examination, fingerprinting and background investigation required prior to employment.

CSUEU Position

Eligible and qualified on-campus applicants, currently in bargaining units 2, 5, 7, and 9 are given hiring preference.
