Description:
The Position: The Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering and Sustainable Manufacturing (MMEM) is seeking a full time, tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor in Sustainable Manufacturing to start August 2014. Candidates must have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and expertise in one or more of the following areas:

Manufacturing areas such as manual and CNC machining, welding, tooling design /construction, automation, robotoics, PLCs, graphics and CAD /CAM integration.

In addition, successful candidates will have broad expertise in sustainability with experience in several of the following areas: life cycle assessment, alternative materials for reduced environmental impact, resource recovery management, design for recycling and deconstruction, sustainable manufacturing advocacy, and management /executive experience with extensive industry contacts.

Minimum Qualifications: The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is an earned Ph.D. degree in a field closely related to Sustainable Manufacturing. Proficiency in wirtten and oral English is required. Candidates must have a strong commitment to undergraduate education and expertise in one or more of the areas listed above. Candidates are subject to a criminal records check.

Preferred Qualfications: Preference will be given to candidates with professional experience in the expertise areas listed above, along with appropriate professional credentials such as Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Manufacturing Enginer (CMfgE), or Certified Manufacturing Technician (CMfgT).

Responsibilities: This tenure track position carries responsibilities in the areas of teaching at the undergraduate level (primary), scholarship, professional development and service to the University and community with preference given for applied research projects with economic, environmental, or societal gains. Service includes student advising, serving on academic committees, and industry outreach activities to promote business, work force, manufacturing policy, and economic development. Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.

Salary: Salary commensurate with education and experience.

The Department: The Department of MMEM offers three accredited B.S. degree programs: Mechanical Engineering (350 current majors), Mechatronic Engineering (160 current majors), and Sustainable Manufacturing (90 current majors). The Department also offers a minor in Manufacturing. It is one of five departments in the College of Engineering, Computer Science and Construction Management (ECC).

The Department of MMEM has several active student chapters that include American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Institute of Mechatronic Engineers (AIME), Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE), and Engineers for Alternative Energy (EAE). The Department prides itself in maintaining rigorous curricula, delivering programs that are practice oriented with a strong design focus, and having accessible faculty who provide a high degree of personal attention to all students. The College and Department typically support several major extracurricular student projects such as the ASME Human Powered Vehicle Challenge, the Baja SAE competition, the WESTEC Manufacturing Challenge, and the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition. Chico State has a tradition of performing well in all of these competitions.
