The Position:
The Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering and Sustainable Manufacturing (MMEM) is searching for a full time, tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor to staert August 2014. Candidates must have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and expertise in one or more of the following areas:

Materials Science: Materials processing, matericals characterization, microfabrication, energy conversion materials, and experimental materials science and engineering involving laboratory instrumentation /measurement.

Thermanl-Fluid Sciences: Thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and laboratory measurement /instrumentation related to thermal-fluid systems; a specialization in renewable or sustainable energy systems is desired.

Minimum Qualifications:
The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is an earned Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or related field. Proficiency in wirtten and oral English is required. Candidates must have a strong commitment to undergraduate education and expertise in one or more of the two areas listed above. Candidates are submject to a criminal records check.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants who have industry experience in their stated area(s) of expertise. Preference will also be given to applicants with teaching experience in higher education and evidence of publications, grants and other creative scholarship. A professional engineering license is desirable.

This tenure track position carries responsibilties in the areas of teachig at the undergraduate level (this is primary), scholarship and professional development, and service to the University and community. Seeking externally finded research and developing a successful research program will be a requirement for achieving tenure. Service includes academic advising of students and serving on academic committees. Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.

Salary: Salary commensurate with education and experience.

The Department:
The Department of MMEM offers three accredited B.S. degree programs: Mechanical Engineering (350 current majors), Mechatronic Engineering (160 current majors), and Sustainable Manufacturing (90 current majors). The Department also offers a minor in Manufacturing. It is one of five departments in the COllege of Engineering, Computer Science, and Construction Management (ECC).

The Department of MMEM has several active student cpaters that include the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Institute of Mechatronic Engineers (AIME), Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), SOciety of Plastics Engineers (SPE), and Engineers for Alternative Energy (EAE). The Departmetn prides itself in maintaining rigorous curricula, delivering programs that are practice oriented with a strong design focus, and having accessible faculty who provide a high degree of personal attention to all students. The College and Department typically support several major extra-curricular student projects such as the ASME Human Powered Vehicle Challenge, the Baja SAE competition, the WESTEC Manufacturing Challenge, and the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition. Chico State has a tradition of performing well in all of these competitions.
