The Position: The Department of Communication Design is searching for a tenure track assistant professor to start August 2014. California State University, Chico is seeking faculty who are competent in their field, collaborative with colleagues and staff, and committed to student success. Position is contingent on funding. Minimum Qualifications: The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is an MFA in Graphic Design or earned terminal degree in related area. Teaching experience in a university setting and demonstrated experience and expertise in visual design for interactive user experiences is required. Candidates are subject to a criminal records check.

Preferred Qualifications: Ability to teach in one or more of the following: 1. Information Design or Data Visualization, 2. Web Design, Motion Design, Mobile Interface and Interaction Design, 3. Visual Programming Languages (Objective-C, Processing, D3, SVG, PHP, Javascript). Willingness to teach at least one lower division core class addressing principles of communication design.

Responsibilities: This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in the areas of teaching (four courses per semester), scholarship (establishing or continuing an active, focused agenda of creative and/or scholarly work) and service (including committee participation at the Department, College and University level) as well as student advising. Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.

Salary: Salary commensurate with education and experience.

The Department: The Department of Communication Design is one of seven in the College of Communication and Education. With options in Graphic Design, Mass Communication Design and Media Arts and minors in Instructional Design & Development and Broadcasting, they serve over 450 majors. The Department maintains labs for graphic design, digital photography, digital audio, writing for media, and HD video production and editing.
