The Department of Mechanical Engineering at San Diego State University (SDSU) seeks to fill a tenure-track position at the Assistant professor level in the area of energy and thermal sciences starting spring 2014. SDSU Department of Mechanical Engineering is strongly committed to excellence in both research and education at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Applicants must hold an earned Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline and have an ability and desire to teach core thermal science courses (e.g., thermodynamics, heat transfer, thermal systems laboratory, thermal systems design), , and related applied courses such as HVAC and solar energy. The successful candidate is expected to have demonstrated potential for developing an externally funded research program in his/her general area of specialization. Current mechanical engineering faculty in the thermal sciences, as in all other areas, are very research active and have funded research from DOE, NSF, NASA, NIST, and other sources. As part of their research and educational responsibilities, all faculty in the department are expected to supervise teams of undergraduate as well as graduate students in our M.S. and Ph.D. programs. Candidates with a strong background in advanced CFD techniques (e.g., GPU computing, writing code for parallel processors) applied to energy research and thermal systems are encouraged to apply.
