PARKING OFFICER (JOB ID 3135)
FULL-TIME
POLICE AND PARKING SERVICES

Major Duties
Under general supervision, the Parking Officer patrols assigned parking facilities and other campus areas; checks vehicles for permits and legal parking, and issues parking citations or warnings as appropriate; immobilizes vehicles with delinquent unpaid citation or tow vehicles in violation of parking rules and regulations with citations at DMV Hold; provides traffic control and directions at critical locations on campus and at all special event activities; observes for unusual activities (i.e. vandalism, malicious mischief, or auto burglary) and reports any unusual incident by radio to the University Police Communications center; provides general information and campus directions to the public in a pleasant, helpful and professional manner; provides guidance to Student Assistants in the Parking Program; summons assistance for campus personnel or visitors and standby until assistance arrives; performs other related duties to provide assistance to the general public and the Parking Office.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and three to six months related experience would normally achieve these entry qualifications. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability and specialized skills to: understand and carry out oral and written instructions; enforce parking regulations; use parking-related equipment and automated systems; relate to faculty, staff, students, and general public in a tactful and effective manner; observe and act to resolve parking conditions that could potentially cause problems; observe and recall details and incidents; read, write, and perform arithmetic computations at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, students, faculty, and others; and operate standard office machines, computers, and software such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

General Information
CANDIDATE MUST POSSES A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE AND STATE DEFENSIVE DRIVER TRAINING CERTIFICATE.

THE SELECTED CANDIDATE IS REQUIRED TO PASS A THOROUGH DEPARTMENT BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION INCLUDING FINGERPRINT CLEARANCE (LIVESCAN).

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
