ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, M.F.A. MUSICAL THEATRE PROGRAM
Appointment beginning: Fall, 2013
RANK AND SALARY: Assistant Professor, Tenure-Track
Salary commensurate with credentials and experience

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Master of Fine Arts Musical Theatre Program in the School of Theatre, Television, and Film is seeking a dynamic faculty member to teach music performance, and scholarly seminars in the area of musical theatre. Primary duties will include team-teaching the graduate performance studio, and teaching graduate seminars in musical-theatre history, music theory, and script and score analysis. Other responsibilities include music directing, arranging and conducting performances featuring graduate and undergraduate students. The candidate will mentor a small group of graduate students in a two-year terminal degree program. It is expected that the successful candidate will demonstrate significant scholarship and/or creative activity and provide service to the university and professional community.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Terminal degree (Ph.D., D.M.A., or M.F.A.) preferred; M.M with substantial professional and/or teaching experience considered. All candidates must have university-level teaching and significant professional experience as a music director, vocal director, and/or conductor. The candidate should be a musical-theatre scholar with a specialization in music and/or vocal direction or conducting, as well as possess expert keyboard skills and an advanced knowledge of musical-theatre repertoire. Applicant must demonstrate basic synthesizer programming skills, and have working knowledge of music notation programs. Knowledge of presentation and audio/video software is desirable. Applicants with experience in and/or commitment to working in a multicultural environment with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles are preferred.

THE MFA MUSICAL THEATRE PROGRAM
SDSU’s Musical Theatre Program has a thirty-year history and is one of two MFA Musical Theatre Programs in the country. The program graduates 8-10 performer/scholars every two years, with a balanced 60-unit curriculum of performance courses and scholarly seminars. Our graduates teach at the university level, as well as perform, direct, choreograph, and music direct nation wide.
