Assistant Professor Position
Department of Civil Engineering

The Position: The department of Civil Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in environmental/water resources engineering at the assistant professor rank. Starting date: August 2013. California State University, Chico is seeking faculty who are competent in their field, collaborative with colleagues and staff, and committed to student success. Position is contingent on funding. As a university that educates students of various ethnic and cultural backgrounds, we value a diverse faculty and staff. Minimum Qualifications: The minimum education requirement for appointment to this position is an earned doctorate in civil engineering (or a related field) and a bachelor of science in civil engineering (or a related field). Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate may be considered; however, the doctorate must be completed by August 1st, 2013 for an August 2013 starting date.

Specific expertise is required in one of the following areas:

 Environmental Engineering

 Water Resources Engineering

Expertise/interest and ability to teach a variety of courses in the department is required.

Candidates are subject to a criminal records check.

Preferred Qualifications: It is highly desirable that candidates have ability and interest in pursuing externally funded research and/or professional activity. It is preferable that this be demonstrated through previous accomplishments and/or publications.

It is desirable that candidates have demonstrated their ability as an effective teacher. It is also desirable that candidates have a BSCE from an ABET-accredited program and/or professional registration in Civil Engineering (any state).

Responsibilities: This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in the areas of teaching, scholarship and service. Responsibilities include instruction in a variety of civil engineering courses, achievement in funded research or other funded professional activity, academic and extra-curricular advising of undergraduate students, and service to the university and community. Excellence in teaching, participation in funded research or other professional activity, and service to the university/community are all requirements for tenure. Teaching assignments are based upon qualifications of the individual and the needs of the department.

Salary: Salary commensurate with education and experience.

The Department: The Department of Civil Engineering (http://www.csuchico.edu/ce/index.shtml ) is housed in the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Construction Management (http://www.csuchico.edu/ecc/ ). The baccalaureate program in Civil Engineering was established in 1957, is ABET-accredited, currently serves approximately 330 majors, and provides high-quality graduates to leading civil engineering firms, public agencies, and graduate schools.
