Marilyn Hopkins
CSU Sacramento
Dean, College of Health and Human Services
Professor of Nursing
A member of the CSU faculty since 1974, Marilyn Hopkins completed 23 years of
successful teaching before assuming her administrative responsibilities in the College
of Health and Human Services. Since her appointment as Dean of the college, Hopkins
has directed the college's energies to focus on community-university collaboration,
faculty development, community service learning, interdisciplinary learning and the
effective use of new technologies. In addition, Hopkins was instrumental in obtaining
for the College of Health and Human Services a $325,000 four-year grant from the Stuart
Foundation to develop a university-community partnership that benefited high-risk
children, youth and families and provided CSU Sacramento students with
interdisciplinary learning opportunities. She also worked to garner $344,095 in funding
(over a four-year period) from the Commission for National Service to support the
Capital University Service Corps.
An innovator, Hopkins incorporated distance education and electronic discussion groups
into her course structure. She holds a B.S. in nursing from CSU Sacramento and a
masters and doctoral degree in nursing from the University of California, San
Francisco.
