The California State University Office of the Chancellor serves as the headquarters
for the 23-campus system. Approximately 500 employees work at the downtown Long
Beach office, located within walking distance of the shoreline, and a variety of
shops, museums, restaurants and entertainment.
The Chancellor's Office guides the country's largest system of senior higher education,
which includes 23 campuses, 44,000 faculty and staff, 409,000 students and two million
alumni. As the system's chief executive officer, the chancellor reports to the Board
of Trustees and directs a staff that provides statewide management in such areas
as academic affairs, business affairs, institutional research, computer resources,
physical plant development, employee relations, governmental affairs, general counsel,
advancement and public affairs.
In addition to the executive office, the Chancellor's Office has five divisions:
Academic Affairs; Business and Finance; General Counsel; Human Resources; and the
Office of the University Auditor. The Chancellor's Office also has several satellite
locations such as the Office of Governmental Affairs and Human Resources Information
Support and Analysis, both housed in Sacramento; Federal Relations in Washington,
D.C.; 4CNet in Los Alamitos and others.
The Chancellor's Office periodically has executive, administrative and staff positions
available but does not hire faculty; faculty are recruited and hired by each of
the 23 campuses. www.calstate.edu
