Professor, Department of Advanced Education


Dr. Ritter received her Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico and has been at CSUB since 1974. She helped develop and coordinate MA and MS degrees in Counseling, Pupil Personnel Services credentials, and the interschool Master of Science in Counseling Psychology. She assisted in the establishment of the University Counselor Training Clinic that provides approximately 1200 hours of services annually to area residents. Dr. Ritter also advises the CSUB chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, an honor society in counseling.

Dr. Ritter's co-authored book earned a 2003 Distinguished Book Award from Division 44 of the American Psychological Association. She also has co-authored two other books, written two book chapters and over two dozen journal articles, as well as served on five national journal editorial boards. She received two Publication Awards from the CSUB School of Education (1995 and 2002) and was the CSUB Alumni Association Professor of the Year in 1985. Dr. Ritter has made over 100 presentations to international, national, and local professional organizations. She was elected Fellows of the American Psychological Association and the Association for Specialists in Group Work, and serves as a licensing examination subject matter expert in Marriage and Family Therapy.
